These covers of past plumbers around Melbourne feature some unusual designs. Generally plumbers featured on sqaure covers only.
Two covers are woprthy of note - Jells (#1006) features recessed ID and with Couilliard (#1928) represent early examples as they are hinged covers. Both more than likely date before WWII. Most of the others have 'hidden hinge' style with thinner covers and casings.
Coulliard also features a centre inlay with ID. Sadly these wear much quicker and are often lost, leaving a blank recess. Then the cover can not be identified.
Prosser (#1941) shows severe wear. It features a unique cover. It is slightly indented near the hinge. Thus is a mid design between hinged and hidden hinge. Also a very early cover. This plumber was active from 1900 to 1915 in Clifton Hill.
Crescent ID is often featured with shape above and reciprocal shape underneath.
