Rectangular covers can either be hinged of not. These generally have thicker casings than the square models. Multi usage on roadways as well as footpaths (sidewalks). RWC (#772) is an example of wide casing. Rarely do road usage covers are hinged. Note two access holes on casing. Jenco 4009 (#708) has a much thinner casing and is never used on roads.
The reason for raised lugs on covers dates back to use of horses. Their legs could easily slip on plain covers.
